Constellation NewEnergy recognized by Green-e
Constellation NewEnergy was recognized by Green-e in July for procuring clean,
renewable electricity supply for industrial and commercial customers in New York
and New England.
"We are thrilled to be recognized by Green-e for supplying electricity generated
from renewable sources to our customers," said Deirdre Lord, vice president of
the New York/New Jersey region of Constellation NewEnergy. "Green-e's
certification is very important to us, because it demonstrates our commitment to
promoting renewable energy to our customers and indicates our interest in taking
a leadership role in renewable energy supply."
Constellation NewEnergy supplies Green-e certified electricity to facilities for
the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA) in New York City, including the
United Nations, Social Security Administration, Veterans Administration and Red
Cross. It also supplies electricity from renewable sources to the Genzyme Center
in Cambridge, Mass., the bio-pharmaceutical company's headquarters building
recognized as a leader in energy efficient design. Additionally, Constellation
NewEnergy, working with the Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) and
Boston 2004, Inc., supplied Green-e certified electricity to the Democratic
National Convention.
Reliant Energy Serving Thousands of New Households
For three summers now Texas electric customers have been able to choose their
electricity provider, and many are exercising that right. An estimated 800,000
Texas households have switched from their traditional incumbent electricity
provider to a competitive supplier.
"Switching levels in Texas are now comparable to what was experienced in the
long distance market after that industry deregulated," said Jim Robb, senior
vice president of retail marketing, Reliant Energy. "In fact, Reliant Energy is
increasing its residential customer base outside the Houston area significantly
by signing up thousands of new customers each week."
Reliant Energy now serves more than a quarter million residential customers
outside its traditional service area, more than double the number the company
served at this time last year. These customers join over 1.3 million households
that the company serves in the greater Houston area.
"We see this as a strong sign that the Texas competitive market is working to
benefit customers," Robb added. "Our marketing activities outside the greater
Houston area have confirmed that Reliant Energy offers the right combination of
savings and customer service that Texans want. As a result, we're being welcomed
by an increasing number of people who recognize the benefits of electric
competition."
