New Jersey Electric Choice Market Jump-starts

October 2003

Within the first month of New Jersey's new electric choice market opening to large customers, two-thirds of eligible customers took advantage and chose a new supplier. A dozen suppliers are offering New Jersey's customers better electricity choices including multi- year fixed priced contracts and large-scale renewable energy deals.

We congratulate the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities for their success in expanding large customers' choices. The Alliance for Retail Choice urges the BPU to progress along their path established last year by maintaining the retail margin mechanism and expanding choice under the CIEP program to all customers with demand 750 kw or more.
