Major Illinois Electricity Customers Urge Continuation
of Competitive Electricity Markets
Citing the tangible benefits of competition, 29 businesses in Illinois have sent
a letter to Governor Rod Blagojevich expressing their strong support for
competitive electricity markets. The businesses include 7-Eleven, AIMCO
Properties, Albertsons (a SUPERVALU Company), Baxter Healthcare, Big Lots
Stores, Dominick’s (a subsidiary of Safeway), Federated Department Stores
(Bloomingdales, Macy’s), Griffith Laboratories Worldwide, Lincoln Property
Company, Mendota Farmers Co-op, Mitsubishi Motors North America (Manufacturing
Division), Olympia Fields Country Club, Satori Energy, SK Hand Tool Corporation,
and others.
In the letter, the businesses wrote: “Electricity competition has contributed to
Illinois’ economic growth, promotes conservation and energy efficiency,
facilitates renewable energy development, and provides the best route toward
energy independence. In addition, wholesale and retail electric markets will
bring about and sustain the most competitive prices for consumers.”
